New KS4 Professional Development Materials: Statistics and probability

New Secondary Mastery Professional Development Materials are now available for Theme 10: Statistics and probability. 

These resources build on the existing KS4 materials and support teachers in strengthening subject knowledge, planning coherent sequences of learning, and refining classroom practice. As with earlier themes, they are designed to be used flexibly, whether by individual teachers or as part of departmental professional development.  

Theme 10 is organised around three core concepts:

• 10.1 Statistical measures and analysis – developing students’ understanding of statistical measures so they can draw conclusions from data and describe the properties of populations.
• 10.2 Statistical representations and analysis – introducing representations such as box plots, cumulative frequency graphs and histograms, and exploring ideas such as correlation and causation. 
• 10.3 Probability – extending students’ understanding of probability through a range of representations and contexts, including single and combined events. 

Each core concept page includes downloadable guidance that breaks the mathematics down into smaller ‘key ideas’, highlighting prior learning and supporting teachers to plan coherent sequences of learning for KS4 students.
