Maths Hubs Programme Annual Report 2024/25 published

The Maths Hubs Programme has continued to grow over the past year, with the newly-published 2024/25 Annual Report highlighting the scale and reach of Maths Hubs' work across all phases of education. This year, 61% of schools in England engaged with their local hub – an increase on 2023/24 – as the programme’s support for teachers, departments and leadership teams continues to widen.

The report covers activity from Early Years through to post-16, and reflects the crucial role played by local leaders of mathematics education (LLMEs) in driving hub-led professional development. Alongside data and analysis, it includes interviews and case studies featuring schools, colleges and teachers that bring the work to life.

Headline figures from 2024/25 include:

  • Programme-wide
    • 61% of schools in England worked with their Maths Hub (up from 58%)
    • 1,039 active Mastery Specialists (up from 960)
    • 1,945 active LLMEs (up from just over 1,500)
  • Primary
    • 1,683 new schools took part in Mastering Number at Reception and KS1 (compared to 1,349 new schools in 2023/24)
    • 1,173 new schools took part in Mastering Number at KS2 (compared to 1,111 new schools in 2023/24)
    • 8,461 schools continued to engage in Teaching for Mastery Work Groups
  • Secondary
    • Approximately 62% of secondary schools took part in at least one professional development opportunity
    • 2,175 schools continued in Teaching for Mastery Work Groups 
  • Post-16
    • 152 post-16 institutions worked with their Maths Hub 
    • 75 new teachers started the Post-16 GCSE/FSQ Mastery Specialist Programme (compared to 52 new teachers in 2023/24).

These figures illustrate not just the scale of the programme, but the continued commitment of schools, colleges and teachers to improving maths education for all pupils.
